Putting E-Safety in perspective

This half term, we have been learning about e-safety. Teachers made sure children were delivered guidelines that were age-appropriate, and in a manner that was engaging, memorable and clear.

Sharing online experiences with our parents

The Reception pupils read a story about Digi Duck exploring a video game in the castle. The pupils answered questions about messages on the screen and the importance of always using the tablet with their parents. They agreed to seek the attention of heir parents always when something unusual appears on the tablet.

Keeping personal information safe online

Year 1 was reading a story about Digi Duck trying to find information on the web. They focused on the positive uses of the internet. They learnt that if they see something that upsets them or they don’t understand it, they need to show it to their parents. Children then draw themselves in a video game.

Year 2 was focusing on how to stay safe on the internet with the help of Digi Duck. Through the story, we discussed the importance of keeping personal information for ourselves and the importance of not sharing passwords. Later we used the information to create a poster in Book creator of how to use the internet safely.

BE SMART: Steps to staying safe online

Year 3 and 4 used Internet Safety Day, along with Mental Health Week to talk about how to be safe online and how to treat others. Year 3 covered SMART and how to stay safe online, including what they should do if they ever find information that worries them. Year 4 learnt all about how to use a search engine and what information they could gather, being critical of the source of their information.

Lessons on creating positive digital trail

Year 5 and 6 took the opportunity on Internet safety day to learn what leaving a “digital footprint” means. The children were made aware that everything they say and do online is recorded. Children now understand what is appropriate to share online and that it is better to leave a positive digital trail.
